DEMOLAY INTERNATIONAL

OF MARYLAND

The Order of DeMolay, now DeMolay International, was founded in 1919 by Frank Sherman Land, a successful businessman and Master Mason in Kansas City, Missouri. During World War I Land became concerned with the plight of young men who had lost their fathers during the war. After meeting with a fatherless boy, Louis C. Lower, in January 1919, he decided there was a need for an organization where they could associate with others of their age and learn responsibility and other life skills.

DeMolay, a premier international youth leadership organization, is striving to shape young men into leaders of character.

By epitomizing timeless values, and accepting the challenge of leadership - both of character and of action - the young men of DeMolay transform themselves into citizens of the highest caliber.

DeMolay is an inclusive organization that only asks of young men interested to believe in a higher being.

The mission of Boumi Temple when it was founded was to have a place in Baltimore where Masons could go to play. The idea for Shriners Hospital for Children was conceived in 1921. Since that time, the Shriners Hospitals for Children has grown into a premiere healthcare system.
